Lights, Granite, Action!

In the first month or so of the building process, we spent the time that we weren't getting ready for settlement or finalizing the house floor plan in selection meetings. We went through all aspects of the home including window styles, door hardware and flooring colors. As the first half of the construction period has come and gone, it was time for us to finalize our few remaining cosmetic selections. August will be here before we know it!

This past weekend, we spent our Friday evening at Forest Hill Lighting putting together our order for the house of all the chandeliers, pendants and exterior lights. I LOVE this part of the house building process. Now that we can visualize the space, I've officially become addicted to planning the interior design. And who doesn't want to fill their home with tons and tons of chandeliers!?

The one thing that really helped us with the lighting selections was to know what we wanted BEFORE walking into the showroom. We weren't as prepared for the exterior lighting selections as we had been for the interior (go me!), but they were fantastic at walking us through options and hunting down products that fit our vision for the space.

In the 25 years that I've lived in Harford County, this was the first time I had ever been inside this gorgeous show room that I used to admire from the outside as we drove past on our way to soccer games and Rock State Park. Kevin was fantastic to work with! Forest Hill was extremely price competitive against any of the online "houseware" sites and we will definitely be going to them for any of our future lighting needs. We are looking forward to seeing our final selections installed!

On Saturday morning, we traveled down to Jessup to MS International, Inc. - a regional distributor for granite, tile, quartz and marble (my fav!). This distributor manages over 125 MILLION square feet of inventory. The warehouse could easily fit multiple football fields inside of it! Once again, being prepared made our granite selection so much easier. I knew that granite would fit within our budget, and that there were plenty of options at this distributor that mimic the cararra marble look that I love without the ginormous price tag. We even got to pick out our slabs! The kitchen design is finally complete and we cannot wait to see it all come together.

Back at the home site, the plumbing and electric rough ins were complete and the sprinkler system was installed. Next week, the low voltage folks (data, cable, etc.) will begin installation and we may start seeing the siding and brick exterior come together!

John and I were chatting in the car on the way home from Jessup this weekend about how quickly these last few months have passed. We are over halfway to our target date!

Talk to you all next week!
