It's been a few weeks since we've posted an update and so much has happened! I've been on travel for work and John's been knee-high in wood working orders (follow Rock Hollow Woodworks on Facebook to see all the cool stuff he's been making!), but the house progress doesn't stop for either of us (and we're okay with that!).
In the last few weeks, we were also able to finalize our plans for the fireplace now that we've selected our insert. John and I both grew up with wood-burning fireplaces, so we knew the extra investment would have almost as much nostalgic value as it will be energy-efficient. The unit we selected (pictures TBD) will act as a secondary heat source to the house and with all the wood we have stacked from the lot clearing, we should be set for a while!
The house is really coming along. It is so cool to visit the site and start walking through the bare-bones of framing where the rooms will be. The foundation walls, beams and sub-floor have been installed and the majority of the first floor framing is in. Amazingly, the cooperative Maryland (*read uncooperative*) weather hasn't caused any delays. We had a slight hiccup with one of the foundation walls that was making framing a bit tricky, but the team was on it and we are back on track to finish the first floor, start the second and get this house under roof!
We've captured so many photos, that it is hard to choose which ones to post! As you'll see when we consolidate our progression photos, the grading that was done on the lot makes a huge difference and the adjustments complement the silhouette of the house perfectly. We truly have a dream backyard with a gorgeous view - one of our many reasons we are so thrilled with the property we chose for this project.
Next step is the second floor and getting this thing under roof!
